Free painting classes for seniors Dec. 5 at The Cloisters

German-born artist Helene Kereluk will be sharing her talent with local seniors in free painting classes at The Cloisters at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5.
Kereluk teaches drawing and watercolor painting in the facility’s first-floor multipurpose room at 400 E. Howry Ave., DeLand. The classes are free and open to seniors ages 62 and over.  Paper, paints, pencils and brushes are supplied by The Cloisters at no charge to students.

During her 40-year art career, she’s created private collections and public works in watercolor, acrylic and oil.  Kereluk studied art in Chicago after moving to the United States from Belgium in 1945. In 2009, her work was chosen for the Florida Health Care Association’s annual calendar titled, “Art from the Heart,” an honor for which she is most proud. Most recently, she taught art classes for six years at Feasel’s in Downtown DeLand.  Today, Kereluk’s original artwork enhances nearly every wall of every floor of The Cloisters’ eight-story Garden Atrium.

Additional upcoming painting classes with Helene Kereluk will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2; Feb. 2 and March 5.

Learn the facts about osteoporosis in a free seminar Dec. 14 at The Cloisters of DeLand

As part of its ongoing community events program, The Cloisters Retirement Community is hosting a free public seminar about osteoporosis at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14. The guest speaker will be Joanne Davson, M.D. of Florida Hospital DeLand.
